City of West Palm Beach to Conduct Hurricane Response Training Exercise and

Post-Storm Simulation

WHO:

City of West Palm Beach Public Works, Public Utilities, Parks & Recreation, Fire, and Police Departments

WHAT:

The City of West Palm Beach will conduct a field training exercise and post-hurricane simulation to prepare for storm response and recovery ahead of hurricane season.

This highly visual drill is part of the City’s year-round emergency preparedness efforts and is designed to ensure a swift, coordinated response that prioritizes public safety. During the exercise, participants will respond to realistic disaster scenarios, including search and rescue operations, medical response, and emergency coordination — simulating challenges such as flooding, power outages, and injuries.

The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30. This exercise is one of several conducted annually to ensure the City is prepared for potential storm impacts and recovery operations.

WHERE:

Ponce De Leon Avenue between 26th Street and Bethesda Terrace

WHEN:

Thursday, May 14, 2026, from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m.

ROAD CLOSURES:

 

Assistant Chief Brent Bloomfield, Emergency Manager, City of West Palm Beach will be available on-site for interviews until 10:30 a.m. For media coordination, please call 561-284-3862.

 

To facilitate this exercise, the following temporary road closures are in place through Saturday, May 16, 2026, at 5 p.m.:

  • Ponce De Leon Avenue between 26th Street and Bethesda Terrace

  • Bethesda Terrace between Flagler Drive and Poinsettia Avenue

  • 26th Street between Flagler Drive and Poinsettia Avenue

  • 23rd Street north to Bethesda Terrace
