West Palm Beach Mayor and City Commission Meeting Approvals and Decisions

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (August 18, 2026) – Below is a summary of the approvals and decisions made by the City Commission meeting on Monday, August 17, 2026.

MAYOR’S OFFICE – State Representative Debra Tendrich provided a Legislative update and presented the West Palm Beach Fire Department with a check for enhanced handling of hazardous chemicals.

Mayor Keith A. James honored five West Palm Beach firefighters, and K-9 Phire, who responded to assist in the aftermath of the devastating Venezuelan earthquake in June 2026. The firefighters were part of a team of firefighters and first responders from South Florida to assist in the search for survivors.

Mayor Keith A. James presented certificates of appreciation to five West Palm Beach firefighters for their work in assisting victims of the Venezuelan earthquake in June 2026. The presentation included, from left, Fire Capt. Adam Mackillop with K-9 Phire, Fire Capt. Herbert Tyler, Fire Capt. Michael Frattaruolo, Mayor James, Fire Chief Diana Matty, Firefighter Bryan Bartlett, and Firefighter Wilmer Morales.

CITY ATTORNEY – Approved a resolution for a Settlement Agreement totaling $85,000 in the matter of Jhadha S. King v. The City of West Palm Beach; approved a resolution authorizing the assessment of City liens in the total amount of $14,584.19 for unpaid water service, sewer service, and stormwater charges for the month of May 2026.

DEVELOPMENT SERVICES – Adopted an ordinance after a first public hearing on Sidewalk Sign Regulations Amending Chapter 78 (Streets, Sidewalks and Public Places) of the Code of Ordinances of the City of West Palm Beach by amending Article XV - Public Right-of-Way, by adding Section 78-440 - Sandwich Board or Sidewalk Signs to establish regulations for sidewalk signs; adopted an ordinance after a first public hearing on a City-initiated request for a text amendment to Chapter 94 - Zoning and Land Development Regulations to update and replace the existing sign regulations with new sign regulations; continued to the August 31, 2026, meeting a second reading of an ordinance and two resolutions regarding the CityPlace Commercial Planned Development to adopt development regulations for the Convention Center District and Hotel II Subarea, and to transfer those development regulations and all future major amendments to Resolution No. 156-26; and on that regarding a Major Planned Development Amendment to the CityPlace Commercial Planned Development to formally designate or identify the Convention Center District and Hotel II Subarea, and to establish the development regulations for said subarea; and a companion resolution regarding a Major Planned Development Amendment to the CityPlace Commercial Planned Development for a Level III Site Plan Review of an 18-story, 400 room hotel with waivers within the Hotel II Subarea.

ENGINEERING – Approved a pair of companion resolutions accepting a grant from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) for the construction of the 25th Street from North Australian Avenue to Broadway Avenue project in the amount of $2,835,452 and approving the state-funded grant agreement; and a companion resolution providing the appropriation of the funding and transfers to contribute the City's match.

FINANCE – Approved a resolution after a public hearing establishing the rates for the Fire Service Assessment Fee for Fiscal Year 2026/2027 and approving the assessment roll; approved a resolution after a public hearing adopting the assessment roll for the Chronic Nuisance Assessment for fiscal year 2026/2027, which includes properties with unpaid charges for the abatement of code violations and chronic nuisance.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY –   Approved a resolution approving an Interlocal Agreement between the City and Palm Beach County for Information Systems Services.

POLICE DEPARTMENT – Approved a pair of resolutions accepting a donation from The Fund for West Palm Beach Police in the amount of $5,500 for Police recruitment materials; and a companion resolution recognizing and appropriating a donation of $5,500 from The Fund for West Palm Beach Police for recruitment materials; approved a resolution authorizing submittal of an application to the United States Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency, for a Presidential Residence Protection Assistance Grant for the reimbursement of operational costs of $117,635 incurred in FY2025 while participating in the protection of the President of the United States of America while in Palm Beach County; approved a pair of companion resolutions, the first resolution accepting a donation of five (5) ballistic K9 vests from Titin Ultra K-9 for West Palm Beach Police Department K9s for a total value of $13,750. The vests offer the K9 protection during high-risk deployment; and the companion resolution recognizing and accepting the donation of the ballistic vests with a total value of $13,750; approved a resolution reapproving the Fifth Amendment to the interlocal agreement establishing the Municipal Public Safety Communications Consortium (MPSCC) of Palm Beach County to renew the City’s participation for five (5) years; approved a resolution approving the submittal of a Department of Justice grant application for the 2026 Model Cities Initiative to provide funding for a holistic approach to public safety.
