City of West Palm Beach Conducts Citywide Hurricane Preparedness Exercise

West Palm Beach, FL – The City of West Palm Beach will conduct a large-scale, full-scale hurricane preparedness exercise on July 23, 2025, designed to evaluate and enhance the City's capabilities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from a major hurricane impact. This citywide exercise will engage all municipal departments, critical response partners, and community stakeholders in a simulated disaster scenario.

The exercise will simulate landfall from a Category 4 hurricane and will test all phases of emergency management—preparedness, response, and recovery. Participating departments will activate emergency operations protocols, including damage assessment, debris removal, public communications, infrastructure restoration, and coordination with municipal and county partners.

Led by the City’s Division of Emergency Management and coordinated through the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), the exercise will include participation from:

  • Police and Fire Departments

  • Public Utilities and Public Works

  • Engineering, Building Services, and Code Enforcement

  • Parks and Recreation

  • Human Resources and Risk Management

  • Procurement and Finance

  • Communications and IT

“This exercise is not only about agency readiness but also about building community resilience, we urge residents to take this time to review their own hurricane plans and ensure they are prepared for the season.” Assistant Chief Brent Bloomfield.
