City of West Palm Beach to Celebrate Ribbon Cutting for

Coleman Park Community Center and Paul G. Blackshear Gymnasium

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (October 27, 2025) — The City of West Palm Beach invites the community to celebrate the grand opening of the newly renovated Coleman Park Community Center and the Paul G. Blackshear Gymnasium on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., located at 1116 21st Street, West Palm Beach.

This milestone marks a significant investment in one of the city’s most historic neighborhoods and reflects the City’s ongoing commitment to enhancing recreational opportunities and strengthening community connections.

The $4.7 million project includes the complete renovation of the Coleman Park Community Center and construction of the new Paul G. Blackshear Gymnasium. Funding for the project was made possible through the 2020 Parks Bond, which contributed $1.2 million; the Penny Sales Tax, which provided $3.4 million; and $100,000 from the Capital Acquisition Fund.

An additional $350,000 from the 2020 Parks Bond funded the installation of a new playground and picnic pavilion, further enhancing amenities for local families.

“Coleman Park is part of the fabric of our city’s history,” said Mayor Keith A. James. “These new facilities reflect our continued investment in the people of West Palm Beach and our belief that every resident deserves access to beautiful, functional, and safe public spaces that build community and pride.”

Named in honor of Paul G. Blackshear, a longtime Parks and Recreation employee and community advocate, the new gymnasium recognizes his decades of service and lasting impact on the City of West Palm Beach.

The Coleman Park project was made possible through collaboration with:

  • REG Architects

  • All-Site Construction

  • JRawn Enterprises

  • Rep Services, Inc.

  • The Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee

  • And the dedicated staff from the City’s Parks and Recreation and Engineering departments.

The ribbon cutting will feature remarks from Mayor Keith A. James. A community celebration will follow with music, storytelling, family activities, and more provided in partnership with RISE Coleman Park.
