WHAT: Guests are invited to experience the newly reimagined Sunset Lounge with celebrated jazz, soul and R&B artist, Valerie Tyson. Known as "South Florida's Very Own Queen of Soul," her powerful voice and stage presence have earned her a dedicated following throughout her decades-long career.
Over the years, Tyson has toured throughout the U.S. and internationally and has had the opportunity to open for major artists such as Al Green, Janet Jackson, Spyro Gyra, and Earth, Wind & Fire.
Her vocal style is often compared to Aretha Franklin due to her powerful, "flame-thrower vocals" that can command a room. Her music spans a wide range of genres, but her primary focus remains in the soul, R&B, and jazz arenas.
Of note, all future Soul in the City concerts will take place at Sunset Lounge, providing a more dynamic experience and accommodating a larger number of attendees. Parking is available via on-site valet for $8.

A pre-show dinner experience is available on the first level from 5 – 7 p.m.

WHY: The completion of the two-story, 7,200-square-foot venue marks a milestone for the City of West Palm Beach and the West Palm Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), both of which are committed to significant revitalization projects across the downtown corridors. The Lounge will host select community and cultural programming, featuring live music, a full-service restaurant, bar, rooftop space, and other amenities.
Located in the heart of the Historic Northwest District, the Sunset Lounge has played a pivotal role in shaping the cultural vibrancy of West Palm Beach. In the 1940s and 1950s, the venue welcomed legendary artists such as Count Basie, Ella Fitzgerald, and Louis Armstrong. It was a vital space for the African American community during a time when Black artists were often excluded from mainstream venues. The Sunset Lounge became a hub for artistic expression for musicians throughout the years, offering a place for performers and audiences to celebrate culture and music.
