At the June 22, 2026 City Commission Meeting, the Commission will consider a proposal to remove the current 80% discount on the City's Fire Service Assessment for nonprofit-owned institutional properties. This item is being brought forward following direction from the City Commission during a March 23, 2026 Mayor/Commission Work Session. Other Fire Service Assessment rates would remain unchanged.
West Palm Beach City Hall, the Mandel Public Library and the Grassy Waters Preserve Nature Center will be closed on Friday, June 19, 2026, in observance of federal Juneteenth National Independence Day. Grassy Waters Preserve Nature Center will reopen at 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2026, and the Mandel Public Library reopens at 9:30 a.m. City Hall will reopen at 8 a.m. on Monday, June 22, 2026.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (September 15, 2025) – The West Palm Beach Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Saturday evening, September 13, 2025.
Officers were notified after an individual arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the back.
Detectives determined the shooting occurred inside a vehicle, where 20-year-old Xavier Gomez, seated in the rear passenger seat, improperly handled a firearm that discharged and struck the front passenger.
The victim was stabilized and transported to a regional trauma center, where the victim later died.
Gomez is charged with manslaughter by culpable negligence under Florida Statute 782.01(1).
