City of West Palm Beach Building Department
Earns Prestigious National Accreditation Recertification
WEST PALM BEACH, FL (January 7, 2026) – The City of West Palm Beach proudly announces that its Building Department has successfully received recertification of accreditation from the International Accreditation Service (IAS) for the next three years. This distinction is held by only 29 building departments nationwide.
IAS accreditation is an independent, third-party verification that an organization meets rigorous national and international standards for competence, quality, and safety. For a municipal building department, this accreditation affirms excellence in permitting, plan review, and inspections, and demonstrates a strong commitment to best practices and strict adherence to building codes.
“This recertification reflects the dedication and professionalism of our Building Department team. Being one of only 29 accredited departments in the country is a point of pride, and it reinforces our commitment to safe development, strong neighborhoods, and the high-quality services our community relies on every day,” said Mayor Keith A. James.
The City’s Building Division plays a critical role in safeguarding the health, safety, and welfare of residents by processing and reviewing building permit applications, overseeing inspections, and supporting business tax receipt applications.
To learn more about the Building Division’s services or to begin a permitting project, residents, contractors, and development professionals are encouraged to visit wpb.org/building, where they can access permitting information, use the City’s online Civic Access portal, and find tools to research zoning and permit requirements.
