City of West Palm Beach to Conduct Fire Hydrant and Water Valve Maintenance Program
Routine maintenance helps ensure reliable water service and supports water quality
WEST PALM BEACH, FL (July 30, 2026) — The City of West Palm Beach Public Utilities Department will begin a fire hydrant and water valve maintenance program on Monday, August 3, to help ensure the City's water distribution system continues to operate safely, efficiently, and reliably.
The program, which will run through October 31, 2026, includes exercising water valves and flowing fire hydrants throughout the City's service area. These routine activities help verify that critical infrastructure is functioning properly, improve system reliability, and support the delivery of high-quality drinking water.
The City has contracted with Hydromax Utility Field Services to perform the work. Residents may notice work crews working on weekdays between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Crews may temporarily redirect traffic around work areas to safely access water valves and fire hydrants, many of which are located within roadway travel lanes.
During this maintenance action, some customers may experience temporary sediment or slight discoloration in their water. While the water remains safe to drink, running cold water from the tap for one to two minutes will clear the discoloration.
