WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (July 29, 2026) — West Palm Beach Police officers helped save the life of an individual in crisis recently after responding to assist a neighboring law enforcement agency.
Officers responded to the Broadway Bridge near 59th Street after receiving reports of a crash involving a pedestrian. While searching the area, officers learned the incident had occurred just north of the city limits and that the individual was hanging from the outside of the bridge.
One officer established communication with the individual while carefully moving closer. When the opportunity presented itself, the officer secured the individual's arm as additional West Palm Beach Police officers and a firefighter joined in pulling the individual safely back over the bridge railing.
"The professionalism, teamwork, and compassion demonstrated by our officers reflect our commitment to protecting life whenever and wherever we are called to help," said West Palm Beach Chief of Police Tony Araujo. "Their quick actions, alongside our public safety partners, made all the difference during a critical moment."
The individual was transported to an area hospital for evaluation. The neighboring agency assumed responsibility for the investigation.
