Born and raised in Belle Glade, Isaac Johnson moved to West Palm Beach in the late 1990s seeking a fresh start. Over time, he struggled with substance use, which led to years of homelessness, incarceration, and separation from his family. Following his release from prison in 2020, Isaac began engaging with the City of West Palm Beach's Homeless Outreach Team to access housing and supportive services.
Over the next several years, Isaac worked with multiple community providers and participated in various shelter, housing, and treatment programs. Like many individuals experiencing chronic homelessness, his journey toward stability included setbacks. However, those continued connections to outreach, and supportive services helped keep him engaged until he was ready to make a lasting change.
On October 6, 2025, Isaac entered a substance use treatment program with a renewed commitment to recovery. After successfully completing treatment, the Homeless Outreach Team assisted him with emergency shelter placement and his application for Permanent Supportive Housing, helping him take the next steps toward long-term stability.
Today, Isaac resides at Joshua House, a sober campus operated by The Lord's Place, where he continues to maintain his recovery and actively participates in Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Most importantly, he has rebuilt his relationship with his four daughters and fifteen grandchildren, relationships that were strained during his years of addiction and homelessness.
Isaac's story highlights the importance of perseverance, coordinated community partnerships, and continued engagement with supportive services. His journey demonstrates that recovery and housing stability are possible, even after years of adversity, when individuals are connected to the right resources and remain committed to changing their lives.
