West Palm Move Frequently Asked Questions
General Information
Why is the City launching West Palm Move?
The service is part of the City's broader effort to manage congestion and give residents, employees and visitors convenient alternatives for making short trips without needing to drive and park for every trip.
Is West Palm Move replacing RideWPB?
Yes. RideWPB ended May 31, 2026. West Palm Move is a new City mobility service with expanded features and a new operating model.
Is this the same service as the trolley?
No. West Palm Move is a new City mobility service and is separate from previous trolley operations.
Launch Plans
When does West Palm Move start?
The City is preparing for launch. The official launch date and additional service information will be announced as implementation is finalized.
Why can't you give me an exact launch date yet?
Several operational elements must be completed before passenger service begins, including vehicles, technology, driver requirements and other launch preparations. The City will announce the date once it is finalized. We are aiming for late August.
Where can I get launch updates?
The latest information is available on the City's official West Palm Move webpage.
Service
Where will West Palm Move operate?
West Palm Move will serve the designated service area within West Palm Beach. Customers should refer to the service map on the City's webpage for the most current boundaries and route information. Generally speaking, all locations east of I-95 have access to The Move.
Will West Palm Move have a fixed route?
Yes. West Palm Move will include fixed-route service as well as on-demand service.
What is on-demand service?
Instead of following a fixed route, on-demand service allows customers to request a ride within the designated service area. The system will connect riders with an available vehicle and appropriate pickup and drop-off locations.
Will West Palm Move pick me up at my house?
Not necessarily. West Palm Move is a shared public mobility service, not a private taxi or traditional door-to-door rideshare service. Depending on the trip, customers may be directed to a nearby pickup location or virtual stop.
What is a virtual stop?
A virtual stop is a designated pickup or drop-off location for on-demand trips. Using designated locations helps vehicles load passengers safely and efficiently without unnecessarily blocking travel lanes or contributing to congestion.
Cost
How much will it cost?
Fixed-route rides will cost $1 per ride and on-demand rides will cost $2 per ride.
Why isn't the service free?
The fares are intentionally low while recognizing that the service has an operating cost. The City's goal is to provide an affordable transportation option while managing the service responsibly and efficiently. Our past data indicated without a fare, users were quick to cancel, causing significant wait times.
Will monthly passes or other fare packages be available?
Not at launch. The City intends to evaluate monthly passes, bundled fares and other fare options after West Palm Move begins operating and we have an opportunity to better understand how customers are using the service.
The City has not committed to a specific pass program, price or implementation date. Any future fare options will be communicated publicly once they are developed and approved.
Using West Palm Move Service
Will I need an app?
West Palm Move will offer technology that allows customers to access the on-demand service. Additional instructions on how to request and pay for rides will be provided before launch.
What happens if I don't have a smartphone?
The City recognizes that not every customer uses a smartphone. A phone number to call the service will be provided as launch details are finalized.
How long will I have to wait for an on-demand ride?
West Palm Move is being designed with specific performance standards for on-demand service. The service provider's performance targets include assigning an on-demand trip to a vehicle within 45 seconds and a passenger wait time of 15 minutes or less.
Actual wait times may vary based on demand, traffic, weather, road closures and other operating conditions. The City will monitor service performance against these standards as part of its ongoing oversight of West Palm Move.
How often will the fixed-route service operate?
The fixed-route service is being designed to provide frequent and predictable service, with a target of 10-minute or better frequency. Actual travel and arrival times may be affected by traffic and other operating conditions.
Can I schedule a ride in advance?
No. West Palm Move is an on-demand service, and rides cannot be scheduled or reserved in advance. This approach helps ensure the system can meet its performance standards, including short wait times and efficient vehicle assignment.
Accessibility
Will West Palm Move be ADA accessible?
Yes. Accessibility is being incorporated into the service and vehicle planning.
What about the bus stops?
The City is reviewing proposed City-owned stops for ADA accessibility as part of launch preparation. The review also considers traffic operations and surrounding land uses.
Children and Families
Can children ride West Palm Move?
The service is being designed to serve the community, including families. Specific rider requirements and policies will be published before launch.
Can a child ride without an adult?
Children may ride without an adult but there will be policies established to support the safe and efficient transport of minors.
Vehicles
What will the vehicles look like?
West Palm Move vehicles will be clearly branded so customers can identify the service. The City and its service provider are finalizing vehicle designs as part of launch preparation. The vehicle concepts are on our website.
Are the vehicles electric?
The fleet is being developed with the City's mobility and sustainability objectives in mind and are fully electric.
Common Concerns
Why is the City spending money on this?
West Palm Move is a transportation investment intended to help manage congestion, improve access to destinations and provide another option for moving around West Palm Beach without requiring every trip to be made in a private vehicle. The service is funded through a combination of developer contributions, mobility fees, the Community Redevelopment Agency and parking fees.
Nobody will ride this. Why is the City doing it?
West Palm Beach already has demonstrated demand for local mobility service, as demonstrated by the stopgap RideWPB service. West Palm Move is designed to improve that transportation option with more predictable, accessible and customer-focused service.
Is this supposed to solve traffic congestion?
There is no single solution to congestion. West Palm Move is one component of the City's broader mobility strategy. Providing convenient alternatives to driving can help the City move more people without relying exclusively on additional vehicle trips and parking.
Will this bring more vehicles into my neighborhood?
The service is being designed to manage pickups and drop-offs carefully. The City is identifying appropriate stop locations and considering traffic conditions and adjacent land uses as part of implementation. Given the high level of service and coverage area, some people may be able to get rid of one of their cars in a multiple person household.
