Poinsettia Avenue Safety Plan

What’s Being Implemented

To improve safety along the corridor, the City has committed to the following upgrades:

  • New All-Way Stop at 25th Street. At the City’s request, FDOT approved a four-way stop at 25th Street and Poinsettia. Installation is expected by Fall 2025.
  • Stop Sign Replacements (Completed). All existing stop signs along the corridor have been replaced with higher-visibility, retro reflective signs to improve compliance and nighttime visibility.
  • Painted Bulb Outs and High-Emphasis Crosswalks
Curb extensions and enhanced crosswalk markings will be added at:
    • 27th Street
    • 30th Street
    • 34th Street
These features will visually narrow intersections, improve pedestrian safety, and calm traffic.

What the Community Said

In the Pre-Improvement Survey, 53 respondents provided feedback about their experience on Poinsettia Avenue:

  • 77% said they observed frequent stop sign violations
  • 73% reported feeling uncomfortable walking or biking
  • 57% mentioned speeding concerns
  • Common suggestions included speed humps, additional signage, and flashing crosswalks

Participants described the corridor as “unsafe,” especially near intersections, and many said they avoid walking or biking due to traffic speed and aggressive driving behavior.

Evaluation & Engagement

The City is committed to measuring how well these improvements address community concerns:

  • Three surveys will capture changes in perception:
    1. Before improvements (complete)
    2. After stop sign upgrades (coming soon)
    3. After full implementation
  • Traffic speed and volume data will also be collected after full implementation and compared to baseline conditions.

Survey #2 will be available shortly after FDOT installs the all-way stop—your input remains essential.
